Maruti Omni (Price and Mileage)

Maruti Suzuki Omni

The Maruti Omni is a microvan manufactured by Suzukis Indian subsidiary Maruti Suzuki. The first version of Maruti Omni had a 796 cc (49 cu in) inline-four engine, same as the Maruti 800 city car. Sold simply as the Maruti Van, this was the second vehicle to be launched by Maruti. It arrived one year after the 800, in 1984. The name was changed to "Omni" in 1988. It received a facelift in 1998, and further minor revisions in 2005, when improvements were made to the exterior and the interior, and new colors became available. Later version of the Omni includes the:
  • Omni (E), released in 1996, an 8-seater microbus version
  • Omni XL - 1999, as the Omni E but with a higher roof.
  • Omni Cargo LPG - 2004, created to answer the growing popularity of this car being used as an inter-city cargo vehicle.
  • Omni LPG - 2003, same 796 cc engine, added with a factory fitted LPG Kit, authorised by the Indian RTOs (Regional Transport Offices). This makes it the most economic four-wheeler in India, as far as driving costs are concerned.
  • Omni Ambulance - A Omni E, designed for ambulance usage. This is the most common type of ambulances found in Indian cities.
The Omni could be divided into two categories: the family version and the cargo version. The newer family version has two extra seats directly behind the front seating and facing away towards the rear of the van making it an eight seater. Older versions are modified by individual owners to add additional capacity this way. The cargo version is completely devoid of back seats. Both versions have sliding back doors and hatchbacks.

Maruti Suzuki 800 (Price and Mileage)

Maruti Suzuki 800

Maruti 800 is a small city car that was manufactured by Maruti Suzuki in India from 1983 to 18 January 2014. First generation (SS80) was based on 1979 Suzuki Fronte and had a 800cc litre F8B engine, hence the moniker. Widely regarded as the most influential automobile in India, about 2.87 million 800s were produced during its course of which 2.66 million were sold in India itself.
With over 30 years of production, Maruti 800 remains the second longest production car in India, next only to Hindustan Ambassador.
After a full model change in 1986, the 800 has undergone some minor face lifts but overall it still remains the same as it was on introduction. The car has reported slipping sales in recent times, mainly due to the introduction of the Alto at a comparable price. The car produces approximately 37 bhp (28 kW; 38 PS) of power and runs on 12 inch wheels. Curb weight is 650 kg (1,433 lb) and four passengers (including the driver) fit in. Top speed is in the region of 125 km/h (78 mph) and the car is known[who?] to deliver fuel economy better than 20 km/l (47 mpg)[clarification needed] on clear and plain roads.[citation needed] Maruti Suzuki had earlier launched a version with a four-valve version of the engine producing 45 bhp (34 kW; 46 PS), coupled with a five-speed manual transmission (currently found in the Suzuki Alto but discontinued it after a couple of years.

Tata Nano (Price and Mileage)

Tata Nano

The Tata Nano is a city car manufactured by Tata Motors. Made and sold in India, the Nano is the cheapest new car in the world today with a price of INR100,000 (approximately US$2000 at launch).

Expectations created for the car during the run up to its production may have been out of proportion with its realised success. A 2008 study, by Indian rating agency CRISIL, thought the Nano would expand the nation's car market by 65%, but, as of late 2012, news reports have detailed the underwhelming response of the Indian consumer to the offering; sales in the first two fiscal years after the car's unveiling remained steady at about 70,000 units although Tata appears intent on maintaining a capacity to produce the car in much larger quantities, some 250,000 per year, should the need arise.
It was anticipated that its 2009 debut would greatly affect the used car market, and prices did drop 25-30% prior to the launch. Sales of the Nano's nearest competitor, the Maruti 800, fell by 20% immediately following the unveiling of the Nano. It is unknown if the Nano has had a lasting effect on the prices of and demand for close substitutes, however. In July 2012, Tata's Group chairman Ratan Tata, who retired in January 2014, said that the car had immense potential in the developing world while admitting that early now opportunities were wasted due to initial problems.
